Ryan and Joy Blosser and their two children are at risk of being robbed of their livelihood and their domestic tranquility at the point of a pen.
I do not know the Blossers personally, but I was moved by their presentation at the Augusta County Board of Zoning Appeals on Jan. 4.
The Blossers have a small-scale produce growing operation on Va. 42 north of Churchville. They are one year away from achieving full organic farm certification, an important part of their business plan.
Now Dominion Energy is proposing to build a 34 acre pipeline construction yard immediately adjacent to the Blossers’ four acres. Four hundred workers would report to this facility every day, along with heavy equipment and construction materials, on narrow and twisting Scenic Highway. The family would no longer have quiet enjoyment of their property, and their organic farm certification would be imperiled. Dominion made their plans without negotiating with adjoining property owners, except the farmer whose land they would rent.
