We are going to write comments on this permit tomorrow night. What are the most important things to touch base on?
Josie, thanks for asking. I know Chad has reached out to you and will get you some of our lengthy list of questions, which we have submitted to the DEQ. We are in the process of publishing suggested talking points for the public and comments to send to agencies in addition to the DEQ.
These permits are so technical and they want us to stick to comments only about the permit – which of course is ridiculous, because it all relates to the bigger picture, and is part of the problem of the fractured, fragmented and piecemeal way industry divides and conquers we the people. Of course Dominion has had years of planning and direct negotiations with the DEQ. And now they expect us to respond in 30 days, knowing full well they have their minds made up regardless of what we say.
Truly, the tides are turning, and our continued vigilance is of utmost necessity. All hands on deck.
Thanks for your response! Do you know how Chad reached out to me? I do not see an email or a message on Facebook…..just want to make sure I am not overlooking something.
The overarching issue here is that of public safety. This includes not only humans but for all lifeforms who depend on clean Air, Soil and Water for their existence. I wish to also speak for those previously mentioned, who are without a voice in these maters. There have been no comprehensive public safety studies on any governmental level, which proposes any practical mitigating measures that could be taken to counter the effects of a massive pipeline leak or rupture of the ACP or MVP structures. Accidents due to earthquakes, mudslides or floods would be most unfortunate. But being that we live in a politically unstable world we must consider something else? How could we ever protect these pipelines from determined acts of terror (foreign or domestic) along multiple points, simultaneously, upon these pipelines? This conversation has not been in the public domain but it must be thoroughly discussed; it our duty as responsible citizens to demand that such public discourse be held within our communities.
