HANDS ACROSS OUR LAND AND WATER

Friends of Buckingham is joining other groups across West Virginia, Virginia and North Carolina in a coordinated event to be held Tuesday, August 18, 6:30 pm, across the three states. Hands Across Our Land and Water is designed to unify many groups and citizens who are protecting— and have been good stewards of— their land and water, some for generations. The event, as hundreds unite in our respective communities, will symbolically show our efforts to stop the unnecessary and unwanted onslaught of new natural gas infrastructure being forced on thousands of private property owners. We’ll have kayaks and tubes to cross the James River. Bring your watercraft, too!

Sharon Ponton, event organizer, with Free Nelson states, “We are united in our goal to stop the industrialization of our communities and properties by energy companies who seek to profit from stealing land through the misuse of eminent domain.”  Local event coordinator, Chad Oba, said “We are local citizens and small business owners from every walk of life standing up for our heritage, our culture, and our property and communities.  We will send a powerful message to the energy industry and to those in our government who choose to ignore our health, safety, and welfare in favor of for-profit corporations, as we stand holding hands symbolically protecting our property and way of life.”

To participate in Hands Across Our Land and Water, contact local coordinator, Chad Oba at chado108@icloud.com or 434 969 3229. Or just show up at the Wingina Bridge at 6:30 pm on Tuesday August 18. Wear your “NO PIPELINE” T-shirt and or bring your watercraft and yard signs!
