RICHMOND, Va (WVIR) -Circuit Court Judge Robert Turk has ruled that pipeline developers may now survey private property in Virginia without the owner’s consent.
The process was deemed constitutional if the company provides property owners with a notification ahead of the potential surveys.
The ruling comes from a dispute over the Mountain Valley Pipeline, a proposed pipeline would run from the northwestern portion of West Virginia into Pittsylvania County in Virginia. The pipeline would run approximately 300 miles in length.
Several property owners filed the suit regarding what they call Dominion’s unauthorized surveys of land. Dominion has said it’s not violating any laws in the case.
The ruling could also bring trouble for Dominion’s proposed Atlantic Coast Pipeline, an interstate natural gas pipeline that will run between Virginia, and North Carolina.
