I oppose the Mountain Valley gas pipeline for the following reasons:
Already too much real estate has been taken from Virginia commonwealth citizens via pipeline right-of-way and easements.
The jobs promised by the state and gas company are only temporary.
Approximately 7 square miles of land will be ruined by the construction of the pipe line by vegetation removal and mixing and compaction of the soil horizons. Vegetation removal will allow soil erosion in large amounts, negatively affecting local surface and ground waters. The compacted soil and loss of nutrients thus limits vegetation growth and will add to the erosion and soil runoff amounts over the lifetime of the pipeline.
Vegetation management will also pollute the surface and ground waters with soil sediment and herbicide poisons. Equipment used for vegetation removal pollutes the air and water with spilled fuel, oil and other toxic fluids needed to operate machinery.
Contaminated water runoff from this project in the mountainous terrain will choke or kill local surface water ecosystems.
