Buckingham Compressor Station Seminar

Friends of Buckingham has been invited by the United Baptist Association of Central Virginia to give this seminar. Yogaville Environmental Solutions [YES], and Chesapeake Climate Action Network [CCAN], are collaborating to present this event.

There will be a brief overview of the progress of the proposed Atlantic Coast Pipeline and a closer look at compressor stations with video clips and powerpoint presentations. The major concerns are:

  • Compressor stations regularly release methane, nitrous oxides and other VOCs into the air with “blow-down events”, or “venting” which causes elevated contamination of the air, water, and soil within up to fifteen miles or more of the stations.
  • What are the real economic costs to our health, environment, community?
  • Resultant reduction of land values and therefore tax base.
  • There is a long history leaks and explosions. Who is responsible for the clean up?
  • Noise is a major complaint.

We have suggestions for what you can do about it. Come share your ideas. This event is open to all.
