Last week, Roanoke County requested a rehearing from FERC
At a meeting this week, the Montgomery County Board of Supervisors unanimously approved a resolution to petition FERC for a rehearing on the authorization of the construction and operation of the Mountain Valley Pipeline project.
Board members say they are concerned that FERC has not fully addressed the potential dangers the construction of the pipeline might have on the environment and the potential negative impact on citizens’ quality of life.
“We don’t believe that this pipeline is in the best interest of the citizens in Montgomery County. In addition to that, this company doesn’t have any experience building this size pipeline through karst terrain,” said Chris Tuck, chair of the Montgomery County Board of Supervisors.
Roanoke County has also asked FERC to reconsider its approval of the pipeline.
