Ruby Laury, Farewell

Ruby Laurie, councilwoman of Friends of Buckingham

The Friends of Buckingham regrets to inform you that our dear Ruby Laury passed away earlier today. John, her husband, just called the Past President, Chad Oba, to let her know and to pass on to you all. She will be deeply missed.

Ruby was a member of our Friends of Buckingham council and a stalwart defender of our Union Hill neighborhood during the Atlantic Coast Pipeline campaign. She always showed up, spoke out even when it was not within her comfort zone, and she opened the church, where she served as deaconess,  to many meetings throughout the years. She will be forever missed.

Please keep her and John in your prayers.

The church service was lovely and overflowing with folks. Some of our ACP compatriots came from Richmond, including Kay Ferguson and Tom from Charlottesville, as well as some of the former students from C’ville who worked with us, Eleanor from Nelson, and Josh Vana from Roanoke. We stood together with Ruby those years, and it was good to be with them all.

The V.Y. Scott Funeral Home published her obituary.
