RICHMOND, Va. — Several groups protesting the two proposed natural-gas pipelines brought boxes full of public comments to the Department of Environmental Quality in Richmond.
“DEQ, get a clue,” a group of more than a dozen people chanted Tuesday morning while holding signs asking Virginia Governor Terry McAuliffe to help stop construction on the proposed Atlantic Coast and Mountain Valley pipelines.
The comments, collected by the Sierra Club, Chesapeake Climate Action Network, Appalachian Voices, Bold Alliance, Blue Ridge Environmental Defense League, and Oil Change International, urged the DEQ to deny a water permit required to begin work on the pipelines.
Dominion Energy and other companies hope to build the Atlantic Coast Pipeline, which would stretch 600 miles underground from West Virginia to North Carolina.
